National platform for end-of-life research

The national platform for end-of-life research aims to contribute to the structuring, the development and the promotion of French research on end of life and palliative care.

Ranging from medicinal research to philosophy, via economy and public health, end-of-life research covers highly diverse fields and approaches (medicine, nursing sciences, public health, epidemiology, economy, psychology, sociology, ethics, etc.).
Owing to this inherent complexity and to the compartmentalisation of the different disciplinary fields, this research is not yet sufficiently structured at a national scale and still remains barely visible at an international scale.

The national platform for end-of-life research was created in 2018 to improve the quality of French research in this field and facilitate contacts between researchers by giving them the opportunity to collaborate more on structuring projects and unifying themes.

The Platform gathers more than 340 researchers and clinicians. It aims to favour disciplinary interfaces, collaborative approaches and methodological innovations taking into account the specificities of the complex realities of end of life and the vulnerabilities of diseased persons.

The platform is supported by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, the Ministry of Health and Solidarity, and the Fondation de France.
It is led by the Université Bourgogne Franche-Comté (UBFC).
