Logiques de l’agir

The « Logiques de l’Agir » research team investigates philosophy of practices. Its team members undertake a interdisciplinary inquiry in all forms of practices that nourrish our social life. A practice is a type of action which can be described through the repetition of gestures and habits it implies, through the rules one complies with to accomplish it, through the know-how it develops, through the institutions it nourrishes and is nourrished by in return, through the various forms of perception and knowledge, shared or conflicted, that it produces. Practices are everywhere, in daily life, in science, in politics, in technics ; at work, at the hospital, at home, at school, in the streets ; in the gesture of the painter, the mathematician, of the musician, as well as where collective deliberation happens. They are from yesterday of for today, just as attempts to understand them or to transform them also are. Practices hold a consistency that gives them a collective dimension. All practice implies repetition of the acts that it comprises. A practice is always something others have done, are doing or will do. Practices are nevertheless not rigid. They can be constantly modified, altered, they can also give rise to experimentatios or radical transformations. They shape, and re-shape the possibility of the common. « L’agir » (acting) has its forms, its logics – hence the name of the team « Logiques de l’Agir ». In order to embrace the widest range of practices, the Logiques de l’Agir research team deploys research along three axis : Theories of practice, scientific practices and intellectual technologies; Collective practices in the XIXth century : social thought, socialism, institutions of knowledge, social transformation ; Contempory practices : democracy, health, environment, art, education
