Most of the researchers at ELLIAD work with archives. Their work focuses on the notion of discourse, in the broadest sense.
All these works are characterized by the same interest in digital technology and its uses, and by the same scientific approach, which consists in moving from a very detailed analysis to a global perspective, whatever the subject is. By ‘discourse’ we mean communication in general and its processes, in different languages. We also mean media discourse, its functioning and its characteristics. Some researchers are particularly interested in large sets of texts (corpora) which they analyze systematically using computer tools developed within the laboratory. The laboratory is also conducting archival research on 19th and 20th century literature (novels, poetry, theater). The performing arts are also addressed through their discursive aspects and the analysis of mediation processes. Other researchers are interested in man/machine interfaces, as sign systems, with a particular interest in digital arts and distance learning systems. Others are interested in pedagogical discourse, on the one hand by theorizing the didactics of French as a foreign language and on the other hand by analyzing the interactions between the teacher and his students.
