Interlanguages Center: text, image, language

The Interlanguage Center brings together researchers from the Languages and Communication Department: Anglicists, Hispanists, Italianists, Germanists, as well as researchers in literature and info-com. The thematic areas combine disciplinary research and interdisciplinary approaches. The laboratory is articulated in 4 axes (see below).

1. The Individual and Nation axis brings together mainly researchers in civilizations, but also, to a lesser extent, in literature and language sciences, whose research focuses, even indirectly, on regional and national identities. The overall approach is based on the articulation of the classical theme of nationalism and regional particularisms with a dynamic reflection on the contemporary concepts of neo-nationalism and post-nationalism.

2. The Models and Discourses axis brings together mainly researchers in language sciences with some researchers in literature. The object of study is discourse, in all its forms, in its relations with the notions of gender, model or matrix. Two main features of the axis concern specialized discourses (medicine, sensoriality, tourism, economy/finance, art) and digital discourses, in particular those produced in social media. The approach is very well equipped (corpus linguistics, data mining).

3. The Image and Criticism axis brings together researchers whose work focuses on hybrid forms, such as visual poetry, illustration, painting and film, as well as on the relationships between different media. Therefore, its identity is determined by the objects of study, rather than by a thematic area, which explains why the themes addressed are often linked to the themes of the other axes of the laboratory. Its members adopt a methodological approach of mainly semiotic influence and aim at refining tools and notions allowing to work on traditional media, but also at developing new ones in order to grasp all the stakes raised by the emergence of media linked to the unceasing development of various media.

4. The Intimacy axis deals with intimate writings, but also with the definition of intimacy, its representation, its staging. It combines diachronic and synchronic perspectives in order to take into account the historical dimension of the feeling of intimacy and its expression. The axis functions in a resolutely interdisciplinary perspective. Indeed, the notion benefits from being approached from cross-over angles, literary, linguistic, historical, but also psychological, sociological, even philosophical.
