Pourquoi\u00a0? En apprendre plus sur l&#8217;environnement sismique de la vall\u00e9e de l&#8217;Adventdalen au Svalbard, et mieux comprendre la dynamique du permafrost dans la r\u00e9gion.<\/p><p>Les chercheurs ont pu d\u00e9tecter des variations saisonni\u00e8res dans la vitesse des ondes sismiques. Ils les attribuent \u00e0 des changements dans la teneur en glace du permafrost peu profond (2 \u00e0 4 m\u00e8tres de profondeur). Les ondes sismiques se d\u00e9placent plus rapidement \u00e0 travers des mat\u00e9riaux solides comme la roche et la glace, et plus lentement \u00e0 travers des mat\u00e9riaux plus liquides ou plus mous.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-1575c50 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"1575c50\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-421c526\" data-id=\"421c526\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2160d76 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"2160d76\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"text-align: center\">Le permafrost peu profond est sensible aux changements de temp\u00e9rature saisonniers. Cette caract\u00e9ristique expliquerait les variations saisonni\u00e8res de la vitesse sismique mises en \u00e9vidence par Julie Albaric, Daniela K\u00fchn (NORSAR) et leurs coll\u00e8gues. Les donn\u00e9es collect\u00e9es sur le long terme sont pr\u00e9cieuses. Elles peuvent faire l\u2019objet de diverses analyses, qui vont au-del\u00e0 de l\u2019utilisation premi\u00e8re pr\u00e9vue.<\/em>&#8220;<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-df67ed1 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"df67ed1\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-a50f998\" data-id=\"a50f998\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f86c2a6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f86c2a6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Les chercheurs tentent de trouver des moyens de surveiller le permafrost car sa stabilit\u00e9 peut avoir un impact important sur le climat mondial\u00a0: une fonte g\u00e9n\u00e9ralis\u00e9e peut entra\u00eener une augmentation des \u00e9missions de gaz \u00e0 effet de serre.<\/p><p>La surveillance sismique peut \u00eatre un outil puissant pour d\u00e9tecter les changements dans le permafrost, notamment parce que les donn\u00e9es sont enregistr\u00e9es en continu, contrairement \u00e0 certaines autres m\u00e9thodes g\u00e9ophysiques, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Julie Albaric. &#8220;<em>Les m\u00e9thodes sismiques sont \u00e9galement tr\u00e8s sensibles. En fonction de la g\u00e9om\u00e9trie du r\u00e9seau, elles nous permettent de cibler diff\u00e9rentes profondeurs et de couvrir de vastes zones. Cela nous permet entre autres de coupler les observations tr\u00e8s localis\u00e9es fournies par les mesures de temp\u00e9rature en forage.<\/em>&#8220;<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-528df47 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"528df47\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-9c6d967\" data-id=\"9c6d967\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-59f53d8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"59f53d8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Le bruit sismique ambiant au Svalbard se compose d&#8217;ondes de volume (qui se d\u00e9placent \u00e0 l&#8217;int\u00e9rieur de la Terre) et d&#8217;ondes de surface intermittentes. Ces derni\u00e8res se produisent lorsque la temp\u00e9rature moyenne d\u00e9passe le point de cong\u00e9lation. L\u2019\u00e9quipe de recherche suppose que les ondes de surface ont une origine cryog\u00e9nique.<\/p><p>L&#8217;environnement difficile de l&#8217;Arctique complique le d\u00e9ploiement, la maintenance et l&#8217;extraction des donn\u00e9es des r\u00e9seaux, a not\u00e9 Daniela K\u00fchn. &#8220;<em>En \u00e9t\u00e9, par exemple, la vall\u00e9e se remplit d&#8217;une large rivi\u00e8re ce qui limite les endroits o\u00f9 des sismom\u00e8tres peuvent \u00eatre install\u00e9s. En hiver, les temp\u00e9ratures froides, la neige et la glace ne sont pas favorables aux \u00e9quipements. Par ailleurs, la fen\u00eatre temporelle pendant laquelle l&#8217;\u00e9nergie peut \u00eatre fournie par les panneaux solaires est r\u00e9duite.<\/em>&#8220;<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column elementor-element
