A la pointe de l\u2019innovation dans de nombreux secteurs, elle est l\u2019une des plus prestigieuses institutions au monde qui \u0153uvre dans les domaines scientifiques et technologiques.<\/h5>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Dans le cadre de ses recherches sur le climat de demain, le MIT accorde un financement pour soutenir un projet port\u00e9 par Emmanuel Garnier et intitul\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0Paris facing the climatic crises of the Little Ice Age 15th-19th centuries\u00a0\u00bb. Directeur de recherche CNRS, Emmanuel Garnier impliquera dans le projet le laboratoire Chrono-environnement (UMR 6249) de l\u2019universit\u00e9 de Franche-Comt\u00e9, sous tutelle du CNRS et d\u2019Universit\u00e9 Bourgogne Franche-Comt\u00e9 (UBFC), et qui est associ\u00e9 \u00e0 la fois \u00e0 l\u2019INRAe, \u00e0 l\u2019INRAP, au minist\u00e8re de la Culture et au CEA, ainsi que la Maison des Sciences de l\u2019Homme et de l\u2019Environnement (MSHE). Pour la partie am\u00e9ricaine, les professeurs Anne E.C. MacCants et David McGee, respectivement enseignants-chercheurs \u00e0 la MIT School of Humanities Arts and Social Sciences et au MIT Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences<\/em>, collaboreront avec leurs \u00e9quipes au projet.<\/p>

Emmanuel Garnier porte ce projet d\u2019excellence \u00e0 l\u2019universit\u00e9 de Franche-Comt\u00e9, membre d\u2019UBFC. Il nous \u00e9claire sur ce partenariat d\u2019exception, reconnaissance de longs travaux scientifiques, qui honore la recherche en Bourgogne-Franche-Comt\u00e9.<\/p>


Apprendre de notre pass\u00e9<\/h4>

La France a une richesse documentaire extraordinaire. Le domaine m\u00e9t\u00e9orologique n\u2019est pas \u00e9pargn\u00e9 de cette abondance d\u2019\u00e9crits\u00a0: les archives parisiennes de la Com\u00e9die Fran\u00e7aise, des biblioth\u00e8ques et archives nationales et de l\u2019Acad\u00e9mie des sciences notamment, foisonnent de donn\u00e9es exploitables et interpr\u00e9tables sur les plans qualitatif et instrumental (temp\u00e9ratures, pr\u00e9cipitations, etc.). Les \u00e9quipes regroup\u00e9es pour l\u2019occasion se fixent donc pour objectif de reconstruire la variabilit\u00e9 du climat et de ses extr\u00eames (enseignement, vagues de froid, etc.) durant la p\u00e9riode du petit \u00e2ge glaciaire et de mettre en exergue leurs cons\u00e9quences socio-\u00e9conomiques.<\/p>

Emmanuel Garnier nous explique ainsi que la France a \u00e9t\u00e9 tr\u00e8s r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement touch\u00e9e par de nombreux \u00e9pisodes de froid au cours des si\u00e8cles derniers. Chaque \u00e9pisode de froid a engendr\u00e9 d\u2019importantes cons\u00e9quences sur la population\u00a0: des impacts sociaux, soci\u00e9taux, mais aussi organisationnels et \u00e9conomiques.<\/p>


<\/strong>Se tourner vers l\u2019avenir<\/span><\/h4>

Du fait du ralentissement de la circulation atmosph\u00e9rique, de r\u00e9centes recherches \u00e9voquent des refroidissements abrupts (2 \u00e0 3\u00b0 degr\u00e9s en moins de 10 ans) \u00e0 l\u2019origine de fortes baisses des temp\u00e9ratures dans les pays c\u00f4tiers de l\u2019Atlantique nord. Emmanuel Garnier nous l\u2019assure, \u00ab\u00a0cet \u00e9pisode n\u2019est en aucun cas en contradiction avec le r\u00e9chauffement climatique auquel nous sommes d\u2019ores-et-d\u00e9j\u00e0 confront\u00e9s. Il s\u2019agit d\u2019un bouleversement environnemental global\u00a0: l\u00e0 o\u00f9 certaines parties du globe se refroidiront, la s\u00e9cheresse et la chaleur sera toute autant pr\u00e9sente ailleurs\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>


Conjuguer recherche historique et recherche pr\u00e9dictive<\/h4>

L\u2019ambition de cette recherche collaborative entre le MIT, le laboratoire Chrono- Environnement et la MSHE est d\u2019allier recherches et expertises afin de conjuguer connaissances du pass\u00e9 et recherches pr\u00e9dictives. L\u2019id\u00e9e est de mesurer les impacts des p\u00e9riodes glaciaires qui ont marqu\u00e9\u00a0le pays et de transposer ces effets aux constats du XXI\u1d49 si\u00e8cle. Cette mod\u00e9lisation aura un int\u00e9r\u00eat majeur\u00a0: celui d\u2019anticiper et de mieux se pr\u00e9parer aux \u00e9v\u00e8nements climatiques \u00e0 venir.<\/p>

Emmanuel Garnier affirme la richesse de cette recherche\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0se saisir de cette diversit\u00e9 et de cette richesse exceptionnelle (\u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle mondiale) des archives climatiques fran\u00e7aises nous ouvre un spectre de recherche extraordinaire\u00a0\u00bb.
